Project Steps

.Meet with Frameworks Timber:   Our free initial consultation will help you determine what project steps are ahead of you, what will come next, what to expect, and budget. It will give us both a chance to introduce ourselves to each other and see if we think the relationship will work.

.Choose your building site. Often, by step one, this has already been done. We recommend that it should happen before design begins. Great buildings always draw influence from their setting. Your next home should be no exception.

.Begin or continue Design. See our design page for more detail on what you should expect from our design. If you need architectural services, we can provide those as well. Throughout the design phase, we will serve as the hub of information. This allows us to review all design contributions for consistency, clarity, and buildability. (See our integrated page for more on this.)

.Build a Total project Budget.  If you're an owner/builder, we'll be glad to consult with you on this and many other things as you feel the need. See our article Should I be my own GC?, and our Profile page for more information on this service. If you've already hired a general contractor, you will likely need little or no consultation from us on overall project budget.

.Apply for and get the building permit. Before you sign contracts for work on your house, you should complete the review process with your local building department. Architectural control committees will sometimes also need to approve of your design before building, and should do so before we order timber.

.Sign a contract. Now that you've built both a timberframe budget and a total project budget that you're comfortable with, it's time to get rolling. Signing a contract should simply convert into writing what you expect from us and what we expect from you. It will also allow us to build a schedule and confirm your delivery date.

.Order timber. This will also be your first scheduled payment, necessary to secure pricing and availability of timbers and other materials for your house.

.We begin production. Once the timber hits our shop, production usually begins immediately.

.Delivery and Raising  This is the most exciting part for you. (And us!) We always invite the public, so expect raising day itself to be an event. Give us a couple more weeks on site, and the installed SIPS and t&g will have you all but closed in.

.Post raising service and consultation.  Our job doesn't end at raising. We expect to be available and on site when necessary to help coordinate our work with all the other tradespeople still working on your house. Our design will have dealt with most of the interface between our product and other trades, but we're always available to deal with anything that comes up. If you're contributing some of the labor to your job, we'll expect to spend an hour here or there making sure it goes smoothly and according to plan.

.Finish photos Once the house is complete, we'll want to take photos of the finished product for our archives. We'll also have a poster for you of the best few photos we've taken of your house, nicely timber-framed. (The poster, that is!)
